India is all set to kick off their T20 World Cup campaign with the match against Ireland on June 5. The match which promises to be a keenly contested one won’t be a walk in the park for the Rohit Sharma-led side given the fact that Ireland is coming into the tournament on the back of strong and consistent performances since the start of 2024 under the leadership of experienced Irish batter Paul Stirling who took over the team as the captain in limited overs cricket from Andrew Balberine following a disappointing run in the ODI World Cup qualifier held in Zimbabwe last year.
Since taking over Stirling has done a decent job as a captain as it was under his captaincy that Ireland qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 and have continued their rich vain of form leading into the tournament. In this article, we will look at all the important aspects of a crucial group A contest in the T20 World Cup 2024.
T20 World Cup 2024: India vs Ireland
India
The Rohit Sharma-led side has been in the T20 mode for the last couple of months with the entire squad featuring in IPL 2024 and would like to build on the rich vain of form they had displayed in the multi-team tournament and in the only warm-up game the team played against Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Having said that India needs to be mindful of the unpredictable nature of the pitch and the uneven bounce that will be on offer during the match against Ireland.
Ireland
The Irish cricket team has been on the rise in the last few years and has always lifted their game as far as the T20 World Cup is concerned. If we talk about the team’s performance in 2024 in T20 cricket then the Paul Stirling-led side has had a good run leading to the T20 World Cup 2024 having won the majority of the matches this year and will look to build on the momentum that the team has gained in the multination tournament as well.

Pitch Report
The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York which was built in record time has been quite an untested territory having hosted only one T20I match so far. With this being only the second international game to be played at this ground it won’t be easy to predict how the pitch will behave. Having said that if we take into account the last game played at this ground between Sri Lanka and South Africa the pitch appeared to be two-paced with variable bounce which was evident by the fact that some balls kept low while others bounced excessively making life difficult for the batters. A score of around 150 might be a challenging score on this wicket.
