Sunday turned out to be a memorable day for the young and talented Abhishek Sharma as he entered the record books for the Indian cricket team. Abhishek Sharma became the fourth-youngest to register a T20I century for Team India and took the least number of innings to reach there.
Abhishek Sharma reached his century off just 47 balls as he scored his last fifty runs in just 13 balls. Abhishek reached the milestone with 3 consecutive sixes and became the first batter to do so.
Abhishek Sharma Played A Sensational Knock
Abhishek made his T20I debut for India but he was dismissed for a duck, however, he made sure to grab the opportunity in the 2nd T20I match with his aggressive batting style. He also won the Man of the Match award and his post-match interaction, Abhishek Sharma expressed his gratitude to captain Shubman Gill, coach VVS Laxman, and the entire support staff for backing him.
In a video shared by the BCCI, Abhishek Sharma talked about his performance, playing with Shubman Gill and his interaction with his parents and former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh, and a lot more. He said:
“We lost the match on Saturday. So after I got a good start I thought this might be my day. The positive was that we didn’t have much time to think about the next game because it was on the next day. When I felt like I can take on a particular bowler I went for it. I came into a flow while batting and thus I wanted to go out there and express myself.”
During his knock, Abhishek Sharma formed a brilliant partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad and together the duo added a 137-run stand to give the Indian side a good start in the game. Speaking about his partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek said:
“I spoke to Rutu as well. He asked me to go for hit and hit the balls that were in my area and not to think much about the balls.”
Abhishek Sharma also revealed that he played with Shubman Gill’s bat and also revealed the reason behind doing so. He revealed:
“This is going in since our U-14 days. Whenever I have played with his bat I have scored like I did today. Today also I want to tell everybody, I played with his bat only. It was difficult to get his bat as he does not give his bat easily. That is like my last option when I feel like I need to play with his bat to make a comeback. Special thanks to Shubman for giving me his bat. This was a much-needed innings for me and for the team as well.”
Abhishek Revealed His Conversation With Yuvraj Singh
Furthermore, Abhishek revealed his video call with Yuvraj and also the reaction of his parents. He revealed that while it was a special moment for him, Yuvi was very happy that the 23-year-old was dismissed for a duck in his first match on Saturday. He revealed:
“I spoke to him yesterday as well. I don’t know why but he was very happy when I got out for 0. He was like, ‘That’s a good start’, but I think he must be feeling very proud, just like my family. It’s all because of him. The hard work he has put in me for years. He has been working really hard on everything; I wouldn’t say it’s just on cricket. Off the field as well.”
