Zimbabwe Pull Off Iconic Upset By Defeating India In 1st IND vs ZIM T20I
After winning the toss, the Indian side asked Zimbabwe to bat first. However, they didn’t have a great start with the bat as they lost Kaia for a golden duck.
The team was saved by Wessly Madhevere (21) and Brian Bennett (22) after they had a shaky start to the innings. They added 34 runs to the scoreboard until India’s leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi turned the tables for India. Yashasvi Jaiswal ran through the batting line-up of Zimbabwe, picking up four wickets and bowling two overs, in which no runs were scored.
Despite this, Zimbabwe scored 115 for nine thanks to solid performances from Dion Myers (23) and Clive Madande (29), who both played effectively. Washington Sundar grabbed two wickets for India, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar also contributed by picking one wicket each.
While chasing the Indian cricket team had a difficult time with the bat. Abhishek Sharma, who was making his debut for the Indian cricket team was run out without scoring a single run. The Indian side found itself in some deep trouble as they faltered to 43 for five.
Captain Shubman Gill put up a lot of effort and scored 31 runs, however, he was dismissed in the eleventh over. With consistent wicket-taking, Zimbabwe’s bowlers reduced India to 86 for nine.
Washington Sundar played a crucial knock, holding one end and scoring 27 runs, but his teammates failed to form a partnership with him. India was bowled out for 102 runs after failing to reach the goal despite his best efforts. In a thrilling game, Zimbabwe won by 13 runs.
After the IND vs ZIM match, Man of the Match Sikandar Raza said:
“Feel really happy about the win. Need to take one game at a time. The job is not done, series is not over. World champions play like world champions so we need to be ready for the next game. This isn’t a wicket where you get bowled out for 115. Credit to the bowlers of both sides. Clearly an indication we need to up our skills. I said I don’t care about the result as long as we could be true to the crowd and changing room, we had our plans, we stuck to it and we backed our guys. Our catching and ground fielding was amazing but we did make some errors, shows there’s room for improvement. We knew the fans would lift us up and give us energy, credit to them, it helped us.”
Losing captain Shubman Gill said:
“We bowled pretty well, we let ourselves down in the field. We were not up to standard and everyone looked a bit rusty. We spoke about taking time and enjoying our batting but it didn’t pan out that way. Halfway through we had lost 5 wickets, would’ve been best for us if I stayed there till the end, very disappointed with the way I got out and the rest of the match panned out. There was a bit of hope for us but when you’re chasing 115 and your no.10 batter is out there, you know something is wrong.”
Meanwhile, following Zimbabwe’s stunning win against the Indian cricket team, fans on social media hailed the captaincy of Sikander Raza and his team’s performance. Some fans also criticized the young Indian players, claiming they are only good in the IPL.

The darkest chapter of the Shubman Gill captaincy era. But I am sure you are going to come back as a prince in the next match. You didn't get support from other batters, yet you scored 31 (29).
