The Afghanistan cricket team is considered as an associate member of International Cricket Council (ICC) with ODI status. As per reports, the team was granted ICC membership for one day internationals in 2001. However, the Afghanistan Cricket Board is known as the governing body of cricket in Afghanistan. Cricket has been played in the country since the nineteenth century, but it managed to gather recognition at international level on October 15, 2001, at the Gymkhana Ground, Peshawar in Pakistan.
