But nothing could be more odd than on behalf of the Mumbai Indians, a team which is synonymous with IPL success. Though DC failed to win in the final despite commendable performance but Iyer was also appreciated by the fans as well as the experts for the controlling the side during the season.
After the KKR experiment, Iyer left DC post the 2020 season and was signed with the Kolkata Knight Riders during the mega auctions held in February 2022. This was shift in his cricketing career which signified him breaking with the past he had made. Given that they aimed at having a different playing style from what was previously used under the Gambian eagle, he had his fair share of challenges that came with leading the team especially given the team’s rich history. But after few years, Iyer proved gem for KKR, who overnight brings coordination and direction among the players with his abilities like adaptability and leadership.
The 2024 season has brought Iyer into limelight with his new improved skill of being a good captain. He has succeeded in making KKR a powerful and consistent team of the Indian premier league cricket tournament. His massive success in the recent Qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad is evidence that Iyer too understands how to foster good teamwork and gain the most from all his players. Next, KKR is now on the brink of another IPL final this time depending on the result of the contesting teams between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
