Sanju Samson fined INR 24 lakhs for slow over-rate. It marks the second slow over-rate fine for RR. Read this article for full details.

Sanju Samson fined INR 24 lakhs in RR vs GT in IPL 2025. This penalty came in after the team maintained a slow over-rate during the game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The fine is the team’s second over-rate offense this season after the first one was under Riyan Parag against CSK last month.

RR has had a mixed start to the IPL 2025, with two wins and three losses. They currently sit at the seventh place at the points table, and their recent match against GT proved to be a disappointing defeat.

The match was crucial for RR, but it turned out to be a double blow as they not only faced defeat but also faced disciplinary action for failing to maintain the required over rate.

The IPL’s Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.22, requires a minimum over rate, failing which the captain is held responsible for the offense, leading to Sanju Samson fined 24 lakhs. Not just that, the rest of the players in the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were also fined either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is less.

Sanju Samson Fined INR 24 Lakhs In RR vs GT, IPL 2025

IPL released an official statement on Thursday, stating, “Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 23 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.”

“As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Samson was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.” the statement added.

This fine not only affects Sanju Samson but also reflects poorly on the team’s discipline and strategy. Maintaining a slow over-rate twice in a season impacts the team’s overall performance and dynamics. RR needs to level up their game and manage the team efficiently to avoid such penalties in the future and ensure a smooth run for players and fans alike.
