As a subset of list, A cricket, ODI matches have their records and statistics, which are kept separately from List A records. 28 sides have played more than 4,000 ODIs since the first game, an ODI between England and Australia January 1971. The frequency of matches has progressively increased, partly because of the rise in the number of ODI-playing nations and partly because the cricket boards of those countries have been working since the Packer Revolution to maximize their earnings from the sport’s rising popularity. India played its 1,000th ODI match in February 2022 during their home series against the West Indies, becoming the first to play that many ODIs. Modern players dominate the aggregate lists due to the trend of nations playing more One Day International (ODI) matches. However, this trend reverses as teams play more Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.

Sachin Tendulkar
Born on April 24, 1973, Sachin Tendulkar (pronounced with a B) is a former cricketer who represented India as its captain. He is recognized as one of the best batsmen in cricket history. He has amassed more than 18000 runs, and 15000 runs overall, respectively, making him the all-time leading scorer in ODI and Test cricket. He also has the most Man-of-the-Match honours in international cricket history. In India, Tendulkar is occasionally referred to as “The God of Cricket.” due to his devoted following and Espen Cricinfo’s assessment that he is “the most revered player in the world.” In 2021, a movie by that name was released.
Mahela Jayawardene
Mahela Jayawardene has been the centre of Sri Lanka’s batting order for the past ten years or more. He is a brilliant technician who exudes class. He signalled the beginning of an orderly transition into a new age for Sri Lanka. He and Kumar Sangakkara made sure that Aravinda de Silva and Arjuna Ranatunga’s absence, two former greats, were little noticed. One of the best cricket players the island nation has ever produced, Jayawardene is a prolific run-scorer, a savvy game thinker, and a quick fielder. When the ICC awarded him the 2006 Captain of the Year and the captain of the World ODI squad of the year, the international cricketing community recognized his accomplishments. He was one of the top five cricketers in Wisden in 2007.
Sanath Jayasuriya
Sanath Jayasuriya has been at the forefront of Sri Lanka’s growth as a cricketing power, and his development into a feared international batsman has coincided with Sri Lanka’s emergence as a major player in the game. Jayasuriya began his playing career as a rather unremarkable utility player with some power. For a large portion of his early career, his performances remained average. In truth, Jayasuriya had only played a small number of Tests and had never had an ODI average above 30 by the end of a year from his 1989 debut until 1995.
Kumar Sangakkara
For nearly 15 years, Sri Lankan cricket was built around Kumar Sangakkara, a graceful stroke player, dependable keeper, and sharp thinker. The legendary cricketer played his farewell match in a Test match against India at Colombo (PSS) in 2015 after over 500 international matches for his nation.
It was a sensation when Sangakkara entered the cricket scene. The selection committee was persuaded of his talent when he scored a scorching 156 against Zimbabwe A in 2000. He was given a spot in the one-day squad at the young age of 22, and in his second game, he took home his first Man of the Match award. After going out in the 90s twice before, he finally made his debut Test century in the ninth match.
Shahid Afridi
Shahid Afridi, also known as Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi, is a former cricketer from Pakistan and the captain of the Pakistani national cricket team. He was born on March 1, 1977. Afridi was an all-rounder who could bat and spin the ball with his right hand. In 1996, Afridi faced Kenya in his first ODI match. He played his first international inning and set the fastest ODI century record against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the series (doing so in 37 deliveries). In 1998, he faced Australia in his first Test match. Against England in 2006, Afridi made his T20I debut. At the 2007 T20 World Cup, Afridi was awarded player of the competition.
