Former India batter Manoj Tiwary has added to this debate. He clearly said that Dhoni should have retired after IPL 2023.
“Sorry if I sound a little harsh, but he should have retired after IPL 2023. That was the right time,” Manoj Tiwary said in a talk with press.
He added that Dhoni earned huge respect over the years, but in the last two seasons, his presence on the field is just symbolic. Even fans in Chennai are now reacting on the streets, and that’s something to think about.

Stephen Fleming, CSK’s long-time coach, said in a press conference that Dhoni can’t bat for more than 8-10 overs because of a knee issue.
But Tiwary doesn’t agree with that. He said:
“When you can keep wickets for 20 overs, crouch, dive, do stumpings and runouts, then how come the knee hurts only during batting?”
He added that all the decisions in the team are being made around Dhoni, but nothing is helping. According to him, CSK should make a strong decision and make Dhoni understand that things are not working anymore.
