As well as the players, umpires play an important role in determining the outcome of a match. A decision regarding any event during play can only be made by the umpire. There are three umpires in cricket: two work on the field, and the third assists the other two from the TV room. Some of the best umpires in the history of the game include Dickie Bird, David Shepherd, Simon Taufel, Rudi Koertzen, Ian Gould, and Aleem Dar. The ODI cricket umpires who have worked the most matches are listed below.
- Aleem Dar
Country: Pakistan
Matches: 229
ODI Career: 2000-Present
Aleem Dar is currently a first-class cricket umpire, as well as a former Pakistani first-class cricketer. Having officiated an unprecedented number of international matches, he holds the record for most matches officiated. The David Shepherd Achievement Award was presented to Dar three times between 2009 and 2011. The top spot on the list belongs to him because he has umpired at least 229 One-Day International matches.
- Rudolf Koertzen
Country: South Africa
Matches: 2009
ODI Career: 1992-2010
Refereeing for 209 games, including World Cup games, he worked the game from 1992 to 2010. Because the umpire officiated the game well, every player respected him. His involvement in the game will make it better, and he will be remembered as a legend. As a result of his influence, a new generation of South African umpires is rising through the ranks.
- Billy Bowden
Country: South Africa
Matches: 200
ODI Career: 1995-2016
Billy Bowden is currently working on the international cricket circuit as an umpire. His “crooked finger of doom” out signal is well known. His entertaining style makes him a favourite on and off the field. He is also quite fair. Billy is fresh off of officiating two WODIs in 2021.After officiating 308 international matches and 200 one-day internationals (ODIs), he moves to the third spot on the list.
- Steve Bucknor
Country: West Indies
Matches: 181
ODI Career: 1989-2009
In the history of cricket, he was widely considered to be one of the most contentious umpires. Despite some of his decisions regarding how he handed out strikes being questioned by batters and bowlers, he was still respected because, most of the time, he was right. West Indies umpires are rare, but in recent years a few young umpires have followed in his footsteps.
- Daryl Harper
Country: Australia
Matches: 174
ODI Career: 1994-2011
He umpired 176 ODIs between 1994 and 2011, as well as World Cup games, and he was respected for his ability to keep order on the field. His services and contributions will not be forgotten by the next generation of Australian umpires. Daryl Harper is no longer an international cricket umpire. In 2011, Indian players unfairly criticized him after a test match between India and West Indies. Daryl is on the fifth list because he is one of the most disciplined.
