Rising Star Jacob Bethell Clinches T20 Win For England Vs Australia

Bethell announced himself at the international stage in the second England vs Australia T20I smashing a 24-ball 44, an innings which included four fours and three sixes. 

England Vs Australia, 2nd T20: England beat Australia by three wickets in the second T20 in Cardiff on Friday, September 13.With this, England leveled the three-match T20 series. 

Chasing a big total of 194, England were placed in a similar spot to the first T20I, having lost a couple of wickets early. However, a dashing performance by its middle-order batters powered the team to victory.

Jacob Bethell announced himself at the international stage in the second England vs Australia T20I smashing a 24-ball 44, an innings which included four fours and three sixes. 

Bethell was handed his first England cap by Liam Livingstone for the first T20 encounter on Wednesday, having been mentored by him at Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred. However, the debutant failed to create an impact managing only two runs.

The left-hander was quick to make amends in the second T20 as he took down Aussie spinners, particularly Adam Zampa. In the 14th over of the chase, Bethell went 4, 6, 4, 4, 2 to make 20 runs off a single Zampa, which was a turning point in favor of England. 

At 20 years and 324 days, Jacob Bethell, in the first England vs Australia T20I, became the fifth youngest debutant for the Three Lions in the shortest format of the game.

Bethell and Liam Livingstone forged a partnership of 90 runs off 47 balls to lead England to a series-levelling second T20I win over Australia at Sophia Gardens. Livingstone got his team home with a superb 87 off 47, smashing five sixes and six fours.

Livingstone hasn’t been at his best in the last few months. It seems he is slowly getting back to his form. Although he has been fantastic with the ball in the series, he finally performed well with the bat when England needed the most. 

“I’ve struck the ball better, but in terms of situations, scenarios, I don’t really care about scoring runs in loses,” Livingstone said. “It’s all about winning games: I want to win games for England and today I feel like I’ve done that.”

England had lost three wickets on 79 and recovering looked challenging. But, Bethell and  Livingstone look determined to get past the finishing line. 

The series is headed for a thrilling finish in the decider in Manchester on Sunday, September 15.
