Matthews Shines in World Cup Qualifier Against Scotland
Hayley Matthews was outstanding with both bat and ball in the game against Scotland. As the West Indies captain, she first led with the ball, putting pressure on the Scotland batters. After Scotland openers Abbi Aitken and Darcey Carter made a good start, Matthews took the first wicket, and from there, she kept taking wickets regularly.
Matthews bowled brilliantly, finishing with 4 wickets for 56 runs in her 10 overs. Her effort helped dismiss Scotland for 244 runs.
Record-Breaking Performance: Matthews Makes ODI History
In the chase, Hayley Matthews played brilliantly with the bat, keeping the West Indies in the game despite regular wickets falling at the other end. She was batting on 99 when she got injured in the 42nd over and had to be carried off the field.
After a few overs, with West Indies losing their 9th wicket, Matthews returned to bat and scored a magnificent century, but didn’t get enough support from the other end.
Hayley Matthews finished unbeaten on 114 off 113 balls, with a strike rate over 100 and 14 fours. Despite her brilliant effort, the West Indies Women’s National Cricket Team was all out for 233, losing by just 11 runs.
Her performance, however, was historic. Matthews became the only player in both men’s and women’s ODI history to score a century and take four wickets in the same match and still end up on the losing side.
