In the recent IPL 2025 scandal, Maxwell fined news made headlines after Punjab Kings’ international star Glenn Maxwell was penalized for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. The incident happened during PBKS’ home encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 8.
IPL management made the official announcement certifying that Maxwell was penalized 25% of his match payment and assigned one demerit point. Even though the very nature of the breach was not made public, it was characterized under Level 1 offense – Article 2.2.
What Did Maxwell Do? Knowing Article 2.2 Offense

The IPL did not give a clear description of the incident in question, following a trend from previous instances such as the fine for Ishant Sharma. Nevertheless, Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 charge, which is to:
“Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.”
Article 2.2 encompasses actions including:
– Hitting or kicking wickets
– Breaking advertising boards or dressing room furniture
– Swinging at the bat out of frustration and damaging it
These actions, even if accidental, are seen as violations in case of negligence or recklessness.
Maxwell’s Bat Fiasco Continues
Maxwell’s batting problems went deeper within the CSK match. Veteran Australian Maxwell was sent back for a mere 1 run from 2 balls, caught out and bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin—his arch-nemesis. Maxwell’s dry run continued in IPL 2025.
Up until now, the 36-year-old has scored only 31 runs in three matches, further questioning his position in the playing XI.
Redemption With the Ball: Critical Breakthrough for PBKS
Where Maxwell’s batting struggled, he was effective with the ball. The off-spinner knocked over Rachin Ravindra, stumping the CSK opener and shattering a crucial 68-run opening partnership. Ravindra had made 36 from 23 balls before getting out to Maxwell.
PBKS Survive Collapsed to Reaching 219/6
PBKS scored an imposing 219/6 despite an initial hiccup, courtesy of a fireworks 103-run innings from rookie Priyansh Arya. Even as five out of six top-order players reached single digit, Arya’s century, with support from Shashank Singh (50) and Marco Jansen, stood the team of Punjab in strong good stead.
CSK’s Chase Also Flops Despite Battle in Faidh-back Fashion
Chennai Super Kings began on a positive note with Devon Conway hitting a half-century, with Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni contributing 42 and 27 each. CSK came up 18 runs short, registering their fourth defeat in five matches.
This victory was PBKS’ third of IPL 2025, leaving them in the running for a top-four position.
Maxwell Fined Amidst Form Concerns
The Maxwell fined news is added to the Australian’s misery this season. With batting failures and disciplinary issues now in the limelight, the veteran all-rounder has to deliver in the upcoming games so that the Punjab Kings can maintain their momentum.
