The Sri Lankan cricket team made their test debut in 1982, recording 104 victories in 319 test matches so far. The nation has produced some of the iconic batters of all time.

- Kumar Sangakkara – 12400 runs
One of the greatest Sri Lankan batters, Kumar Sangakkara is the country’s leading run-scorer in both tests and ODIs. In 134 tests that he appeared in his illustrious cricketing career, the southpaw scored 12400 runs at a remarkable average of 57.
Sangakkara completed 38 test centuries, the most for his nation by any batter, and 52 half-centuries. The left-hander registered one triple century and 11 double centuries in his test career.
- Mahela Jayawardene- 11814 runs
Only two Lankan batters have achieved the 10,000-run mark in tests. Mahela Jayawardene is one of them. With 149 test appearances, the former captain is Sri Lanka’s most-capped test player. He piled up 11814 runs in the red-ball format at a fantastic average of 49 . The ace batter hammered 34 centuries in his test career.
Jayawardene’s highest individual test score is 374, which he made against South Africa in 2006 in Colombo. He has six double centuries to his name.
- Angelo Mathews – 7766 runs
Angelo Mathews is Sri Lanka’s third-highest test run-scorer with 7766 runs. Mathews has featured in 112 test matches so far, with an impressive average of 45. His test campaign has so far produced 16 centuries. The right-hander has a highest indiidual test score of an unbeatenb 200.
- Dimuth Karunaratne – 7007 runs
Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne is his country’s fourth-highest test scorer with 7007 runs. The southpaw has played 94 test matches so far, with a decent average of 40. He has hammered 16 test hundreds. His highest individual test score stands at 244. Under Karunaratne’s captaincy, the team registered a test series win in South Africa in 2019.

- Sanath Jayasuriya – 6973 runs
Legendary batter Sanath Jayasuriya is Sri Lanka’s fifth-highest test scorer. Jayasuriya began his career as a spinner and lower-order batsman before gradually moving up the order to become one of the most explosive batters of all time. He collected 6973 runs in 110 test matches that he played in his 17-year career. He played with an average of 40 and smashed 14 test centuries.
