By the year 2020, both Chris Gayle and Brian Lara had reached the milestone of 10,000 runs, surpassing Haynes’ total. During that period, 10,000 ODI runs became the new benchmark level. But for one person, he defied the odds and established records that are still in effect today.

Sachin Tendulkar scored a century in an ODI match against Australia in Indore in 2001, becoming the first player to score 10,000 runs. Tendulkar had a 24-year career in which he amassed 18,426 runs at an average of 44. That included 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries. A player has never before accumulated such a ridiculous number. By a margin of 4,00 runs, Tendulkar was unrivalled in his field. Currently, Virat Kohli is on track to score more runs and centuries than Tendulkar did in his career.
With Tendulkar in the lead, he has broken several ODI records, including 11,000, 12,000, 13,000, 14,000, 15,000, 16,000, 17,000, and 18,000. Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka and Ricky Ponting of Australia are in second and third place, with 14,234 and 13,704 runs, respectively.
Unexpectedly, this trend has even reached the medians. In the era of Tendulkar and Sangakkara, averaging over 40 was unheard of. Nonetheless, Kohli now has a batting average of about 60 in this era. Dhoni’s final career batting average was better than 50. When Haynes retired, his career average was at 41.
