
Cricket Australia established the Big Bash League in 2011 as an Australian professional Twenty20 club cricket league. The KFC Twenty20 Big Bash has been replaced by the Big Bash League, which features eight city-based franchises as opposed to the six state-based teams that participated previously. Since the competition’s inception, the fast-food chicken chain KFC has been its sponsor. It is one of two T20 cricket leagues, the Indian Premier League, to rank among the top ten domestic sports leagues in average attendance. The Perth Scorchers defeated the Sydney Sixers in the BBL 11 (2021/2022) championship match by 79 runs.
In recent years, T20 cricket has expanded exponentially. The expansion can be traced to the existence of numerous T20 leagues throughout the world. IPL, BBL, and CPL are three of the most popular leagues currently. Since 2011, Australia has annually hosted the Big Bash League, a Twenty20 cricket league. Over the years, it has attracted a great deal of interest due to its eight city-based franchises.
These eight teams are the Adelaide Strikers, the Brisbane Heat, the Hobart Hurricanes, the Melbourne Renegades, the Melbourne Stars, the Perth Scorchers, the Sydney Sixers, and the Sydney Thunder. Six of these eight teams have already won the championship. Sidney Sixers and Perth Scorchers are the two most successful teams, having won three titles each. The competition will begin with a round-robin stage and then go to knockout stages. The League now consists of eight squads from six different cities. The Sydney Sixers beat the Perth Scorchers and won the first-ever Big Bash.
Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars are the only two teams in the Big Bash League who have yet to win the League. The Hobart Hurricanes have been to the finals twice, losing to the Perth Scorchers in 2013–14 and the Adelaide Strikers in 2017–18. On three separate occasions (2015–16, 2018–19, and 2019–20), the Melbourne Stars have finished as runners-up.
Only two teams in the League have never become Big Bash champions, while six teams have done it multiple times. The Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers have won the BBL title three times, with the former team doing it in two consecutive seasons. In the ten seasons of the League, Perth Scorchers has made the most appearances in the final, a total of six. Four of those appearances came in a row.
The 2022 season of the Big Bash League will begin on December 5 and end on January 28. There will be a total of 61 games played by the eight clubs competing for the championship. After beating the Perth Scorchers in the 2020-21 season, the Sydney Sixers defended their title.
