GT vs PBKS, IPL 2025: Punjab Kings (PBKS) will start their season with a match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday. Captain Shreyas Iyer will use his leadership skills to help PBKS perform better, as the team has often struggled in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite rebranding from Kings XI Punjab to Punjab Kings, the team has struggled to finish in the top five over the past four seasons, although they made it to the semi-finals in 2018 and the final in 2014.
With Iyer as captain, Punjab now has a leader with a proven track record. He will also team up again with coach Ricky Ponting at Punjab, giving him a great chance for a fresh start.
Gujarat Titans, who won the title in 2022 and finished as runners-up in 2023 under Hardik Pandya, had a tough 2024 season, finishing in eighth place. Shubman Gill, who became captain last season, had a challenging year, despite being India’s vice-captain in One Day Internationals.
However, both Gill and Iyer are entering the tournament in great form, having played crucial roles in India’s Champions Trophy-winning campaign in Dubai earlier this month.
