The mini-auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) season 2025 will be held on December 15 in Bengaluru. All five franchises will have Rs 15 crore for their team building this year against Rs 13.5 crore that they had last year.

England captain Heather Knight, New Zealand fast bowler Lea Tahuhu, and West Indies all-rounder Driandra Dottin will be some of the prominent international names in the mini-auction. At the same time, Indians will include Sneh Rana, leg-spinner Poonam Yadav and batsman Veda Krishnamurthy.

Delhi Capitals, the runners-up of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, are captained by Meg Lanning. Their purse is the smallest one – Rs 2.5 crore. Gujarat Giants have the highest purse, that is Rs 4.4 crore, having come last in the last two seasons. They have released seven players from their roster and are building a new team.

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who have India captain Smriti Mandhana and New Zealand’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Sophie Devine, have also released seven players. RCB has a budget of Rs 3.25 crore.

The only player change for the pre-season window that opened in early November saw Dani Wyatt transferred to the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The RCB got the Australian from UP Warriors for cash. Wyatt never took part in a game during last season for UP Warriors who ended last season with the fourth position.

The first WPL season was played entirely in Mumbai. The second season was played in Bengaluru and Delhi, and the BCCI is keen to continue with this model and gradually add new venues. The board is also keen to introduce a home-and-away format.

The third season will see five teams playing over three weeks from February-March 2025, while the tournament will be held in January-February to 2026.
