The Gujarat explosive opener, Urvil Patel, has carved a niche in Indian cricket by breaking the record of Indian players who scored a T20 century the fastest in the match. During a match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Tripura in Indore, Urvil scored an incredible hundred in just 28 balls.
This broke Rishabh Pant’s Indian record since 2018, where he had done it in 32 balls. This marvelous feat also ranks Urvil among the fastest hundred-makers in T20 cricket all over the world, with Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan being just one step ahead of him at 27 balls.

Urvil’s blistering innings came while chasing a target of 156 runs. Gujarat, in pursuit of the target, achieved it in a stunning 10.2 overs, thanks in large part to Patel’s scintillating knock. The right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman remained unbeaten on 113 runs off just 25 balls, a knock that included seven fours and 12 towering sixes.
His aggressive strokeplay lit up the field as he unleashed a series of powerful shots, sending the ball flying to all corners of the ground and achieving boundaries almost at will.
It’s not just that the 27-year-old Patel did this while maintaining an incredible record in List A cricket too. In November 2023, he managed to score the second-fastest List-A century by an Indian and reached the milestone in 41 balls. This record has been there for years by Yusuf Pathan when he scored the fastest List-A century by an Indian off 40 balls.
Thus, his performance over the past year made the cricketing world focus on him as a very quick-rising player in the domestic cricket circuit.
Urvil Patel’s phenomenal performances also caught the attention of Gujarat Titans during the 2023 IPL season. He was there in the team but didn’t get a chance to play for the team in the 2023 IPL season. In the 2024 season, GT decided to release him, and despite his name being on the list of the IPL 2025 auction, he couldn’t earn a contract with any team.
Though he has had a setback, his recent performances in domestic cricket have revealed his potential and can provide him with more chances at higher levels in the future.
