Top 7 Most Successful Run Chases In IPL History: Punjab Kings Top the List

Top 7 Most Successful Run Chases In IPL: Punjab Kings made history by chasing down 265 runs against Delhi Capitals. This is the largest successful run chase ever recorded in IPL history.

Two years ago, a team would have needed to complete its chase within five overs before it was formally registered as such, therefore making it impossible to count this as the largest successful run chase. With each passing year since its formation, the Indian Premier League has become progressively more competitive.

In addition to these new developments in the IPL, the trends in T20 match-up baseball have also changed dramatically over the last several seasons. When initially introduced to the market by the BCB, a team could have a hard target of adding 180 runs without batting out its maximum. However, that scenario changed dramatically with the emergence of the power-hitting version of cricket (T20).

As the power-hitting version of the game continues to evolve, chasing totals over 200 runs will become an increasingly less common experience across the board.

Top 7 Most Successful Run Chases in IPL

1. 265/4 (Target: 265) – Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals, 2026

He and Nitish Rana also formed one of the largest partnerships ever made in IPL history, as their second-wicket partnership of 220 runs put Delhi in total control of the game.

The Punjab Kings adopted an aggressive batting style right from ball one, as Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh dominated the early stages of this match, scoring 43 runs from just 17 deliveries (Priyansh Arya) and 76 runs from only 26 balls (Prabhsimran Singh) during the first five overs of this match.

In addition, Shreyas Iyer’s 71 (not out) off 36 balls secured the innings and he remained at the wicket for the entirety of the innings as well. Shashank Singh finished with 19 (not out) off 10 balls when the Punjab side completed the chase and successfully made this their highest successful chase in IPL history with 7 balls remaining.
