India, who won the men’s tournament earlier this year, received USD 2.45 million in cash prize. “The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be the first ICC event where women will receive the same prize as their male counterparts, marking a significant milestone in the sport’s history,” said the ICC.

Likewise, the runners-up will now secure USD 1.17 million, an increase of 134 per cent in comparison to the USD 500,000 South Africa received for reaching their maiden final, at home.

The two semi-finalists of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will receive USD 675,000 each, more than triple compared to that of 2023 payout.

Additionally, USD 31,154 will be rewarded  for each victory in the group stage, a 78% increase from last year’s $17,500.

The six teams who fail to reach the semi-finals will share a pot of USD 1.35 million depending on their finishing places. In comparison, the equivalent pot for the six teams in 2023 was USD 180,000 which was shared equally.

Additionally, all participating teams will receive a base prize. A prize of USD 112,500 will be awarded to all 10 participating teams, amounting to USD 1.125 million. This means even the teams to crash out of the group stage will not leave empty-handed.

Teams finishing fifth to eighth in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024  will now walk away with USD 270,000 each, while those finishing ninth and 10th will bring home USD 135,000.

The event is set to begin on October 3 with all group matches completed by October 15.

This widening of the prize money beyond knockout stages is yet another step by the ICC toward ensuring all teams are well-supported. The increase in prize pool is part of the cricket body’s efforts to promote women’s cricket internationally.
