Pakistan opened its account in the T20 World Cup 2024 by registering a win against Canada in a low-scoring game. Canada set a target of 108 after Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first. Pakistan chased down the target in 17.3 to win the match by seven wickets.
Pakistani batter Mohammad Rizwan scored a 52-ball 50 to help his team cross the line on the notorious New York pitch. With this knock, Rizwan made the record of scoring the slowest fifty in a T20 World Cup match.

The Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman broke South African batter David Miller’s record, who had scored a 50-ball 50 at the same Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Mohammad Rizwan remained not out to score 53 of 53 balls in the low-scoring game. His half-century came in 52 balls.

David Miller scored 59 of 51 balls in a match against the Netherlands in the group match of the T20 World Cup 2024. South Africa was chasing 103 runs posted by the Netherlands in a low-scoring game. Miller reached the 50 mark in 50 balls.
49 balls- Devon Smith vs Bangladesh, Johannesburg, 2007
West Indies cricketer Devon Smith made 51 runs in 52 balls in the group match of the 2007 T20 World Cup against Bangladesh. The Asian tigers chased down the target of 164 set by the West Indies in 18 overs.
49 balls- David Hussey vs England, Barbados, 2010
Australian batter David Hussey scored 59 of 54 balls in the final match of the ICC World Cup 2010 in which England won. England won the final by seven wickets after chasing down 147 runs in 17 overs.

The Pakistan vs Canada match also witnessed another record set by Rizwan. The Pakistani batter also equaled Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s record of scoring the most fifties in the T20 Internationals.
Both the openers have 30 half-centuries each in the shortest format of the game.
