
Shikhar Dhawan, who is hailed as one of the finest white-ball openers, has announced his retirement from international cricket. Dhawan, 38, clarified that although he is bidding goodbye to Indian colors, he will continue to play in league cricket – most prominently in the Indian Premier League.

Notably, Shikhar Dhawan last played for the Indian cricket team in December of 2022 in an ODI match against Bangladesh, will go out after having scored 10,867 runs from 269 appearances, including 24 centuries, 44 half-centuries, and as one of the biggest match-winners for India over the last decade.
On Saturday, 24th August, Shikhar Dhawan took to his social media and penned a heartfelt note for his fans. He also shared a video where he made the big announcement. He wrote:
“As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind! 🇮🇳”

Meanwhile, in an exclusive chat with the Hindustan Times, Shikhar Dhawan said: “It’s not like it is a tough decision for me. I am not even emotional. I don’t want to cry or something. But mostly it’s gratitude and love. I have spent most of my life playing cricket and I feel I’ve reached a stage where I want to rest now – from international and domestic.”
Shikhar Dhawan Gave A Big Hint About His Future Plans
Dhawan has no regrets about his career and says he achieved everything he could given his potential. He said:
“Nothing at all. I achieved 100% of my potential. I played all three formats — test, ODI and T20 for my country and gave my best. I feel complete, I am at ease now.”
Further, Dhawan said that he would love it if actor Akshay Kumar would portray him in his biopic. He said:
“I would love it (biopic), only if it is made well. As for me acting in it, I would happily do it in case I added any value to the film. As for other actors, I would love for Akshay paaji to do it, or even Ranveer Singh, for the sheer energy he has.”
When asked about his plans for doing commentary, considering how cricketers often transition to commentary and coaching post their playing careers. Dhawan said that he has no plans as of now. He said:
“I am already making a good return through my ventures but…Of course, the option to do commentary, etc. is always there for me because of my expertise. But I want to try and do something new and bigger. I want to jump high, and I am not afraid of falling.”
