The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially declared Avesh Khan as the replacement for the injured Mohammed Shami in the upcoming second Test match against South Africa. This decision comes as Shami, initially included in the Test squad announced on November 30, is still recuperating from an ankle injury.
The second Test is scheduled to commence on January 3 at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, South Africa. Avesh Khan’s inclusion aims to bolster India’s bowling attack and fill the void left by the experienced pacer Shami.
India’s squad for the second Test reflects this adjustment, with Rohit Sharma leading the team. The lineup includes Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul as the wicketkeeper, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah as the Vice-Captain, Prasidh Krishna, KS Bharat as the backup wicketkeeper, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and the newly added Avesh Khan.
As the anticipation builds for the second Test, the adjustment in the squad showcases India’s flexibility and depth as they look to secure victory in the Test series against South Africa.
