The World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma penned a heartfelt tribute to head coach Rahul Dravid, who is also hailed as one of the greatest cricketers to have ever played the game of cricket. Rahul Dravid’s tenure as Indian head coach came to an end after the T20 World Cup 2024 win.
During his career as a player, Rahul Dravid came close to success multiple times but he could never touch the prestigious trophy. Dravid was a part of the Indian squad that qualified for the 2003 ODI World Cup finals, but Australia defeated the Men in Blue to lift the trophy.

However, what Dravid couldn’t achieve as a player, he achieved it as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. As the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Dravid saw a lot of heartbreaks.
Under his guidance, the Indian cricket team lost the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, which was against England in 2022, and then in the final clash of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup final match against Australia in 2023.
After facing all these defeats, Rahul Dravid was very close to stepping down from the position of the head coach of the Indian cricket team. But a call from Rohit Sharma changed things for Dravid.
Rohit Sharma Paid A Heartfelt Tribute To Rahul Dravid
Over the past few years, Rohit and Rahul have worked hard to improve Indian cricket. Under their leadership, India became the top team in all formats. They dominated at home, consistently defeating strong teams like Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa.
In Test cricket, India went through changes but Rohit and Rahul Dravid managed well, securing a significant series victory against England at home. They also reached the World Test Championship final, a major accomplishment in itself.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma took to his social media on Tuesday and penned an emotional tribute for Rahul Dravid, wherein he expressed his feelings, calling him a friend, mentor and coach. He also revealed how his wife Ritika Sajdeh referred to Dravid as his work wife. He wrote:
“Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this but I’m not sure I ever will so here’s my attempt.”
“Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely. You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too.” Rohit captioned the post.
“This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend.”
