Ticket sales for the 2024 Boxing Day Test at MCG hit record levels, driven by massive demand from fans.
Cricket Australia has announced that ticket sales for this year’s Boxing Day Test in Melbourne between India and Australia have reached record-breaking numbers.
The association reported that sales for the opening day have tripled compared to the 2018/19 series. During the 2020/21 tours, only 30,000 spectators were allowed in the 100,000+ capacity stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, the demand has soared this year.
Moreover, sales for days 2 to 4 have also seen a 5.5 times increase compared to India’s last tour in 2018/19.
Joel Morrison, Executive General Manager of Events & Operations at CA, expressed his excitement:
“The Border Gavaskar series is always a big event, and ticket sales show the huge anticipation for this contest between Australia and India.”
Morrison also encouraged fans to grab their tickets soon:
“With tickets selling fast for all five Tests, we urge fans to book early to avoid missing out on any of the action.”
Another striking figure is the growing number of tickets bought by Indian fans. In 2018/19, only 0.7% of sales came from Indian supporters, but that number has now jumped to 3.9%.
Morrison highlighted the importance of this:
“We’re seeing strong sales from both Indian and Australian fans. This offers a wonderful chance to celebrate the long-standing connection between the two nations, both on and off the field, with many Indian fans expected to attend throughout the summer.”
