Ravishankar Shastri, born on May 27, 1962, is a former cricket captain for India, the current head coach of the Indian national team and a cricket commentator. He was a participant in the Indian national cricket squad from 1981 to 1992, and he played in both Test matches and One Day Internationals throughout that time.

Initially a left-arm spin bowler, he eventually became an all-around player capable of bowling and batting. Ravi Shastri played primarily defensively in cricket with his trademark chapati stroke (a flick of the pads), although he could boost his strike rate when necessary. In contrast to his lofted shot’s effectiveness against spin bowling, his height and upright posture limited his options while facing fast bowling. Ravi’s batting position was either first or second in the line-up.

Ravi Shastri led Bombay to the Ranji Trophy title in his final year of domestic cricket as the team’s captain. And for four years, he played county cricket for Glamorgan. He was only 31 when he was forced to end his playing career due to a chronic knee injury. For all of India’s matches, he has provided commentary for the BCCI.

On July 13, 2017, he was named the captain of the Indian cricket team. On August 16, 2019, he was reappointed as head coach of the senior men’s Indian side; he will remain in that role until the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.
