Departing head coach Rahul Dravid enjoyed a successful stint as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He made unforgettable memories of lifting the prestigious trophy of the World Cup that he couldn’t lift during his glorious career as a player and as the captain of Team India.
Dravid was at a loss for words during his farewell in the Indian dressing room. His last day as the head coach of the Indian cricket team will be remembered for a lifetime as it ended India’s 13-year-long wait for an ICC trophy. After a gap of 13 years and 3 months, the Indian cricket team again became the champions.
Rahul Dravid’s Farewell Speech After T20 World Cup 2024 Has Gone Viral
Under the guidance of Rahul Dravid, the Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the final clash by seven runs at the iconic Kensington Oval in Barbados to win the T20 World Cup.
While it was India’s first World Cup since the ODI title in 2011 and the first T20 triumph since 2007, it was Dravid’s sixth and final attempt for a World Cup trophy – three as a player, three as a coach. This was probably why Dravid couldn’t hold his emotions when Virat Kohli handed him the trophy.
Meanwhile, addressing the players in the dressing room hours after India’s big win on June 29th, Rahul Dravid made everyone emotional with his farewell speech. He said that no one will remember the runs or wickets but everyone will know the details of the World Cup win. He said:
“I’m really short of words but all I just want to say is thank you to everyone for making me a part of what is an incredible memory.”
He added: “All of you will remember these moments. We always say, it is not about the runs, it is not about the wickets, you never remember your career but you remember moments like this, so let’s really enjoy,”
Further, Rahul Dravid revealed how Rohit Sharma called him after the ODI World Cup 2023 in November and convinced him to continue as the head coach. He revealed:
“Ro, thank you so much for making that call in November and asking me to continue. I know as a captain and coach there’s a lot of time we have to discuss, we have to agree, we have to disagree. But thank you so much. It has been a pleasure to know each and every one of you.”
Rahul Dravid also praised the Indian captain for playing as a team, crossing the line, and showing resilience. He added:
“I couldn’t be prouder of you guys. To come back the way you did, the way you fought, the resilience, the way we worked as a team, what this bunch of boys has done, what all of yu have done, the hard work we have put in, the sacrifices we have made, I think the whole country will be proud of you.”
