
The International Cricket Council (ICC) made a significant announcement on Friday, disclosing that the champions of the highly anticipated 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup will be granted a handsome prize of USD 4 million. This remarkable reward will be in addition to the coveted trophy, and the grand moment will unfold at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.
The total prize pool allocated for the tournament amounts to USD 10 million, mirroring the prize money offered in both the 2015 and 2019 editions of this prestigious cricket competition. As for the runners-up of the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup, they will be entitled to USD 2 million, while teams that reach the semi-finals but fall short of the championship will receive USD 800,000 each.
In a progressive move, the tournament will also recognize and reward teams for each league match won, continuing a recent trend observed in ICC tournaments. Teams securing victories in the 45-match group stage will receive USD 40,000 per match, emphasizing the significance of every triumph. Additionally, the six teams that do not advance to the semi-finals will still receive a commendable payment of USD 100,000.
The format of the 2023 ODI World Cup will involve teams facing each other once in a round-robin style during the group stage, with the top four teams progressing to the semi-finals. The 48-match event is scheduled to take place across ten venues, commencing on October 5 and concluding on November 19.
This 13th edition of the World Cup will kick off with defending champions England facing New Zealand, offering a thrilling rematch of the 2019 final. The encounter will unfold at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.
Host nation India, winners in 1983 and 2011, will commence their campaign against five-time champions Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This marks the first time India is exclusively hosting the Men’s ODI World Cup.
Sri Lanka, the champions of 1996, will embark on their journey against South Africa at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on October 7. Meanwhile, Pakistan, the triumphant team of the 1992 World Cup, will initiate their campaign against the Netherlands on October 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
