For the unversed, it would be Sophie’s ninth straight appearance at the Women’s T20 World Cup, which is no less than an achievement. Sophie is looking forward to lifting the trophy for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The New Zealand cricket team finished runners-up in 2009 and 2010.
Announcing the squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer said that the squad will feature a perfect balance of youth and experience. He said:
“Congratulations to all of the players named in this squad, it’s a significant achievement to be selected to represent your country at a World Cup. I’m really pleased with this squad, I think these are our best 15 players to adapt to what will likely be varied conditions,” Sawyer was quoted by ICC as saying.
The squad also features several experienced players, including the likes of Suzie Bates, Lea Tahuhu, Amelia Kerr, and Maddy Green. Among them, Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates have appeared in every World Cup edition so far.
Sawyer praised Suzi Bates and Sophie Devine for making it to the World Cup squad yet again. He said:
“Soph and Suze have a huge amount of tournament experience from World Cups to franchise leagues, so we’ll certainly be leaning on that knowledge in what’s going to be a pretty intense competition.”
Return of Rosemary Mair: Boost for New Zealand’s Pace Attack
Rosemary Mair, who missed the tour of England in July, because of a back injury has made a return to the Kiwi squad. She will add more strength to the pace-attack. Jess Kerr, Tahuhu, Hannah Rowe, and Molly Penfold are the other notable names in the New Zealand squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Spin Department: Key Players for UAE Conditions
Talking about the spin department, Leigh Kasperek, Amelia Kerr, and Fran Jonas will add variety to the squad, especially in the risky UAE conditions.

Ahead of the tournament, the Kiwis will be playing their warm-up matches against South Africa and England.
