Mumbai Indians Record in IPL Qualifier 2 – Full History
IPL Qualifier 2: Mumbai Indians (MI) have played in the IPL Qualifier 2 match four times so far. They are one of the oldest teams in IPL and have been part of the tournament since it started in 2008.
MI is one of the most successful teams in IPL history. They have won five IPL titles, which is the highest number along with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In 18 IPL seasons, MI reached the playoffs 11 times, including IPL 2025.

In IPL 2025, MI finished fourth in the points table and made it to the playoffs. After winning Qualifier 1 by beating Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs, they will play Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2. The winner of this match will go to the final to face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
MI has a lot of experience playing in IPL playoffs. They have played Qualifier 2 four times before. Let’s check their performance in each of those matches.
2011 IPL Qualifier 2 – Lost to RCB by 43 runs
In 2011, MI beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator. But in Qualifier 2, they lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Chris Gayle scored 89 runs for RCB and helped them reach 185/4.
MI could only score 142/8 while chasing. Sachin Tendulkar made 40 runs but others did not perform well. Daniel Vettori took 3 wickets, and Sreenath Aravind and JS Mohammad took 2 wickets each to help RCB win by 43 runs.
2013 IPL Qualifier 2 – Beat Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets

In 2013, MI lost Qualifier 1 to CSK by 48 runs. Then they played Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals (RR). RR scored 165/6 with Rahul Dravid making 43 runs.
Dwayne Smith scored 60 runs for MI and Aditya Tare added 35 runs. MI chased the target successfully and won by 4 wickets. Later, MI beat CSK in the final to win their first IPL title.
2017 IPL Qualifier 2 – Beat KKR by 6 wickets
MI played Qualifier 2 for the third time in 2017. After losing Qualifier 1 to Rising Pune Supergiant by 20 runs, MI faced KKR in Qualifier 2.
MI’s bowlers did very well and bowled out KKR for only 107 runs. Karn Sharma took 4 wickets and Jasprit Bumrah took 3 wickets.
Krunal Pandya scored 45 not out and MI chased the target easily, winning by 6 wickets in the 15th over. MI later won the final against RPS to claim their third IPL title.
2023 IPL Qualifier 2 – Lost to Gujarat Titans by 62 runs
In IPL 2023, MI won the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs. But they lost Qualifier 2 to Gujarat Titans (GT).
Shubman Gill scored a brilliant 129 runs and GT made 233/3. Suryakumar Yadav scored 61 and Tilak Varma scored 43 for MI, but the team was all out for 171.
Mohit Sharma took 5 wickets for GT. MI lost the match by 62 runs.
