The SA20 2025 auction took place in Cape Town on October 1. After the auction, all six teams finalized their squads for the upcoming 2025 season, which will begin on January 9.
The six teams – MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Joburg Super Kings, and Durban Super Giants – participated in the SA20 2025 auction to complete their 19-player squads. Shamar Joseph, a fast bowler from the West Indies, was one of the most expensive players for Durban Super Giants at R425K. Known for his speed, Joseph is expected to perform well on South African pitches, where his bowling can trouble the opposition. He was also a key figure in West Indies’ win at the Gabba against Australia earlier this year.
4. Marques Ackerman – Pretoria Capitals (R800K)

Pretoria Capitals secured 28-year-old middle-order batsman Marques Ackerman for R800K, making him one of the most expensive players in the 2025 auction. Ackerman has a good domestic record, with 1039 runs in 56 T20 matches, including six half-centuries, averaging 25.34.
3. Evin Lewis – Pretoria Capitals (R1.5 Million)

West Indian power hitter Evin Lewis was picked by Pretoria Capitals for R1.5 million. He ranks third among the most expensive players in the SA20 auction. With his vast experience in both international cricket and T20 franchise leagues, Lewis is expected to be a major asset to his team. The 32-year-old has played 237 T20 matches, scoring 6306 runs with an average of 29.46, hitting six centuries and 40 half-centuries.
2. Richard Gleeson – Sunrisers Eastern Cape (R2.3 Million)

England fast bowler Richard Gleeson became 2nd of the most expensive players in the auction when Sunrisers Eastern Cape bought him for R2.3 million. Gleeson has previously played in SA20 for Durban Super Giants, where he took five wickets in three matches, maintaining an economy rate of 8.41.

Reeza Hendricks topped the list of the most expensive players in the 2025 auction, being sold to MI Cape Town for R4.3 million. The South African opener previously represented Joburg Super Kings in the 2023 and 2024 editions of SA20. Hendricks has played 22 matches in SA20, accumulating 411 runs at an average of 24.17, including two half-centuries.
