1. Imran Khan: 39 years and 172 days – ODI World Cup

The first man on this list is the original captain of the Pakistan cricket national team Imran Khan. He was also the oldest captain of any team in ICC history to have captained a winning team in an ICC competition.

Imran Khan led his nation of Pakistan as a captain (while still being one of the amazing all-rounders that represented Pakistan) in the One Day International (ODI) cricket World Cup in 1992 at 39 years and 172 days of age.

Under the captaincy of Imran Khan, Pakistan made history when they became the first country and only to win an ODI cricket World Cup after defeating England by 22 runs in the final match. Apart from winning the ODI World Cup, Pakistan have managed to win the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy.

2. Rohit Sharma: 37 years and 313 days – ICC Champions Trophy

The second youngest player on the list is no less than an icon in Indian cricket, the Indian team’s former captain, Rohit Sharma. Under his captaincy, India lifted the trophy in the Champions Trophy in 2025.

The final of that tournament was played by New Zealand, who batted first and made a total of 251 runs in their 50 overs (7; that means they lost 7 wickets). India then successfully chased down the target of 251 runs in 49 overs with captain Rohit Sharma scoring 76 runs and Shreyas Iyer scoring 48 runs. The final was played in Dubai.

3. Rohit Sharma: 37 Years and 60 Days – ICC T20 World Cup

Team India’s last veteran captain Rohit Sharma at 37 years and 60 days was able to lead India to their second T20 World Cup triumph in history in 2024, capturing it against South Africa in the final match played on the island of Barbados by only 7 runs.

Perhaps the most impressive part of this tournament was that Team India had gone through the entire tournament unbeaten.

4. Suryakumar Yadav: 35 Years and 175 Days – ICC T20 World Cup

India’s cricket team captured its third consecutive T20 World Cup championship with a victory over New Zealand in the 2026 T20 World Cup final match played at Narendra Modi Stadium (Motera) on March 18, 2026.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav of India led his team to victory and became India’s oldest captain to win a T20 World Cup title, as he turned 35 years old on March 17, represented by 35 years and 175 days old on the day of this match.

In this match, Sanju Samson (89) and Abhishek Sharma (52) played magnificent innings for Team India. The third player in his inning, Ishan Kishan scored 54 runs which was a big help for the Indian team who scored a total of 255 runs with 5 wickets fallen during the match.

The commentator commented how excellent their batsmen had been batting and how the Indian bowlers put the New Zealand batsmen out of business after scoring only 159 runs against the 255 by India.
