England batter Joe Root, who recently registered several Test records, gained top position as the International Cricket Council (ICC) updated player’s rankings on Wednesday.
“Joe Root’s dream run with the bat has helped the England batter to an even bigger lead in the ICC Test Batter Rankings,” ICC stated in a statement.
Consecutive centuries allowed Root to climb up the top spot at ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings. Root, with 922 rating points, now leads the chart by 63 points over New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.
With tons against the Sri Lanka series, Root went past Alastair Cook as the Englishman with the most Test hundreds.
Already leading the ICC Test batters rankings, Root’s record show has helped him strengthen his lead at the top, as he’s now ahead of second-placed Kane Williamson by 63 points.
On the other hand, after a humiliating home-series defeat to Bangladesh, Pakistan cricket team dropped two places to fall to their lowest ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings since 1965 as they slipped to eighth.

Pakistan opener Babar Azam, who scored just 64 runs in four innings crashed out of top 10 in the ICC Test Batting Rankings.
Special mention may be made of England’s Gus Atkinson who became just the third player in Men’s Test history to score a century and claim a five-wicket haul at the Lords. He moved up 48 spots, into the top 20 for All-Rounders, and into the top 30 for bowlers.
