
Several cricketers have gained big in the latest ICC rankings announced by the cricketing body on Wednesday. While a few Indian stars have gained big in the ICC ranking after their brilliant performances in the recently-concluded 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, on the other hand, England’s Joe Root has claimed the number one spot in the latest ICC batsmen rankings.
The Indian cricket team recently cleanly swept the series against the Sri Lanka cricket team to kickstart the journey under their new captain Suryakumar Yadav on a perfect note. The Men in Blue won the first game of the series by 43 runs before winning the game by 7 wickets (DLS method). The third game was tied before the SKY-led Indian cricket team won the Super Over to win the thrilling win over the hosts.
Several Indian players have been rewarded with a big jump in the latest ICC T20I rankings. Young and talented opener Shubman Gill, who scored 73 runs in the series, is up 16 places to 21st position. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 80 runs in three games, has jumped 2 spots to fourth position.
Talking about bowlers, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has made a return to the top ten of ICC Rankings for T20I bowlers. He has jumped eight spots to take the 10th spot after taking 6 wickets in the series. Arshdeep Singh (up four spots to 19th), Washington Sundar (up six places to 40th), and Mohammed Siraj (up 37 rungs to 47th), are the other Indian bowlers who have moved up in the ICC Rankings.
From Sri Lanka, pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who picked up 5 wickets in 2 innings, has moved up 13 places to equal 77th. Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has moved up to the top of the ICC rankings, replacing Wanindu Hasaranga.
The former Sri Lanka captain has dropped two positions after struggling to impress against team India.
ICC Rankings for Test batters and bowlers:
New Zealand’s superstar Kane Williamson has dropped down to the second position and is followed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam (third joint), New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (third joint), Australia’s Steve Smith (fifth), and India’s Rohit Sharma (sixth position).
Joe Root has replaced Kane Williamson as the number one Test batter after he endured an impressive outing in the 3-match Test series against West Indies. The former England captain finished the series as the highest run-scorer, amassing 291 runs with the help of one century and two half-centuries.
Among bowlers, England captain Ben Stokes has also moved up four spots to rise to 30th after picking up 5 wickets. Mark Wood (up six spots to 20th) and Gus Atkinson (gains four places to 46th) are the other England bowlers who have openers.
