The three-match IND vs SL ODI series starts on August 2 and all the games will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After a 3-0 clean-sheet win against the host, India will look to carry forward the momentum on to the ODI series.
As the action moves to the ODI series, changes have been made into the squad. For India, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return to action while Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested from the series. This means other players will get the opportunity to solidify their marks. However, there are some players who are likely to be benched in the series.
Here are three Indian cricketers who might be excluded from playing IX in the IND vs SL ODI series:
Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant makes a comeback in the ODI squad for India for the first time since his car accident in December 2022. He straightway made his international comeback with the T20 World Cup 2024. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman is most likely to be replaced by KL Rahul in the IND vs SL ODI series. KL Rahul had an impressive campaign in the World Cup 2023 scoring 452 runs at an average of 75 as a middle-order batsman.

Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag could not live up to the expectations in the just concluded T20 series against Sri Lanka. The all-rounder scored only 33 in three matches with an average of 16.50 and took only three wickets in three matches. With spinners like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar in the squad, Parag might not find a place in the Playing XI. Sundar is likely to get the nod as off-spinning all-rounder in the IND vs SL ODI series.
Harshit Rana
After a remarkable campaign with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2024, Harshit Rana was given a call-up for the SL vs IND ODI series. But with pacers like Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj and Khaleel Ahmed around, Rana might end up warming the bench in the series.
