Ishant Sharma, born on September 2, 1988, is a cricketer who has played for India in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. He bowls at medium speed with his right arm. Sharma, then only 18 years old, was invited to join the Indian team on their 2006–07 tour of South Africa. Though he had already planned his trip after getting the call, he was cut from consideration.
Ishant began playing Cricket seriously at 14, and by the time he turned 18, he had made his Ranji Trophy debut for Delhi. In the same Test series in which he made his debut, India’s tour of Bangladesh in May 2007 marked his first selection to the national team.
In December 2007, he finally got his big break when he prised out the Pakistani side on a flat Chinnaswamy deck and finished with 5/140. The tall youngster’s impressive bowling performance landed him a spot-on India’s tour of Australia.
With his beautiful high-arm action and ability to consistently bowl near the 140 kph mark, Ishant caused many problems for the Australians during that tour in 2008. Ishant’s favourite victim was Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who he bowled out to six times in seven Test matches.
