In a big setback for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), star Australian opener Travis Head and Indian fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat are not playing in the 61st match of IPL 2025.
The match between Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad is currently being played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, May 19.
Why Travis Head and Jaydev Unadkat Are Missing SRH’s Clash Against LSG in IPL 2025
At the pre-match press conference, Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori gave an update on star batter Travis Head.
He shared that Head tested positive for COVID-19 and couldn’t travel to India in time for the restart of IPL 2025. Vettori mentioned that Head would arrive in India on Monday morning.
Travis Head hasn’t had a great season so far. In 11 matches, he has scored 281 runs with an average of 28.10 and a strike rate of 156.11. He is SRH’s third-highest run-scorer this season, behind Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen.
At the toss, SRH captain Pat Cummins said that Travis Head is currently in his hotel room and will miss the match. He also confirmed that Jaydev Unadkat is on personal leave. Cummins said:
“Travis Head is in his hotel room, so he is missing out. We have got Harsh Dubey playing his first game, and Jaydev Unadkat is on a personal leave, so Taide comes in as well.”
SRH made a few changes to their playing XI, bringing in Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harsh Dubey, and Kamindu Mendis, while leaving out Sachin Baby, Abhinav Manohar, and Jaydev Unadkat.
Cummins admitted that SRH haven’t played at their best this season and hopes to finish strong. He said:
“We haven’t played to our potential. Through a couple of injuries gives us the opportunity to try a few new guys playing their first game. It feels like we have unfinished business. The team has been brave, we have got a great bunch of players but we haven’t fired as we would have liked.”
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant said he wants his players to give it their all in the remaining matches to keep their playoff hopes alive. He said:
“The only mindset we are looking as a team is to play one match at a time and giving our 100 percent. I feel as a team we have regrouped really well. We are in good space as a team. The only change is that Will O’Rourke is making his IPL debut.”
