Star England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler will not be available for the IPL 2025 Playoffs after being included in England’s team for their limited-overs series against the West Indies. The series begins on May 29 at Edgbaston, the same date as IPL Qualifier 1. Jos Buttler’s presence for the Gujarat Titans during the most critical part of the tournament has been eliminated.
Kusal Mendis Appointed as Replacement for Jos Buttler

Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Mendis will replace Jos Buttler in the Gujarat Titans (GT) team. ESPNcricinfo and NewsWire reports confirm that Mendis will be signed as a short-term replacement for the Englishman, who has been the key to GT’s successful run this season.
Gujarat Titans’ Wicket-Keeping Concerns
In the absence of Jos Buttler, the Gujarat Titans are short on experienced wicket-keeping talent. Untested Indian player Anuj Rawat is the only other backup for the team, thus leaving Kusal Mendis a probable selection directly into the GT playing XI. Mendis will be joined by fellow Sri Lankan international Dasun Shanaka in the team composition.
Jos Buttler’s Impact in IPL 2025

Jos Buttler has been the top performer for the Titans this season. Batting at No. 3, the England veteran has made an incredible 500 runs in 11 games at a staggering average of 71.43. He is likely to feature in the last three league games before leaving for national duty.
Gujarat Titans on the Verge of Playoff Qualification
Currently sitting atop the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points from 11 matches, the Gujarat Titans require one more win to ensure a spot in the Playoffs. But the non-availability of Jos Buttler during the knockout phase is a critical issue, even with Mendis joining the side at the right time.
