Almost 12 hours after the match ended, the IPL released an official statement on Monday morning. It said that Ishant Sharma has been fined 25% of his match fees and has also received one demerit point. Ishant accepted his mistake and agreed to the punishment given by match referee Javagal Srinath.

What exactly happened?

According to IPL rules, Ishant broke Article 2.2, which does not allow the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground fittings, or other objects during the match. Reports say he damaged some equipment in frustration, which comes under a Level 1 breach of the code.

What does Article 2.2 include?

This article includes any action outside normal cricket activities, like hitting the stumps in anger, kicking dressing room doors, or damaging advertisement boards. Whether done on purpose, by mistake, or carelessly, such actions are punishable.

Ishant’s poor day on the field

Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ishant Sharma had a tough day. He gave away 53 runs in his four overs without taking any wicket. While his team won the match, it was a disappointing performance for him personally.

Other players fined this season

Ishant is not the only player to be fined this IPL season. These players were also penalized earlier:

Player Name Team Reason

Rishabh Pant Lucknow Super Giants Slow over-rate

All these players were punished under different sections of the IPL code of conduct.

Good news for GT
