IPL 2025: Lucknow’s Strong Total Falls Short as Delhi Chases Down 210
Lucknow posted a strong total of 209-8, and Delhi found themselves struggling at 7-3 and then 65-5 while chasing the target.
But a brilliant innings from Ashutosh, playing his first match for Delhi as an impact substitute, guided them to an exciting win in the final over.
With six runs needed off the final over, bowled by Shahbaz Ahmed, Delhi’s number 11 Mohit Sharma survived a tense lbw review and then managed to get a single off the next ball.
Ashutosh Sharma then hit a massive straight six off Shahbaz, sending the crowd in Visakhapatnam wild as Delhi sealed the win with three balls to spare.
Delhi’s chase of 210 was their highest in IPL history, surpassing the 209 they scored to beat Gujarat Lions in May 2017, and it became the ninth highest chase overall.
Earlier, Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 75 off 30 balls helped the Lucknow Super Giants post a strong total. His knock included six fours and seven sixes, coming at an impressive strike rate of 250.

IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant Reflects on Lucknow’s Top-Order Performance
After the match, Rishabh Pant mentioned that their top order performed well and they would focus on the positives from the game. Rishabh Pant said:
“I think our top-order batters played really well and I think it was a pretty good score on this wicket.
“As a team we are looking to take positives from every match and as a team we are looking to learn from it (every match.) The more basics we do right, the more it is going to be better for us in the future.”
Further, Rishabh Pant praised the trio of Ashutosh Sharma, Tristan Stubbs, and Vipraj Nigam for snatching the game away from Lucknow Super Giants. He said:
“We got early wickets, but we knew it was a good wicket to bat on. We had to keep doing the basics right more often than not. I think they had a couple of good partnerships. One with Stubbs, with Ashutosh and one with one other guy (Vipraj Nigam.) I think he (Nigam) did a pretty good job and took the game away from us.”
However, Pant didn’t look satisfied with the bowlers as he slammed them for not getting basics right. He said:
“There was enough for the bowlers, but I think we could have done the basics right. We felt the pressure, we are still settling in, but a lots of positives to take from this match.”
Rishabh Pant concluded by saying that luck played a huge role in the match. He said:
“Definitely luck plays a part in this game and if it could have missed his (Mohit Sharma’s) pads, it was a chance for stumping. But these things happen in the game of cricket, you can’t focus on these things, but rather you need to play better cricket.”
