IPL 2025: Bumrah’s Early Season Absence For MI

Jasprit Bumrah’s IPL 2025 start is uncertain due to injury. Learn how his potential absence affects Mumbai Indians and their bowling strategy for the season.

Mumbai Indians (MI) might face a big challenge in the start of IPL 2025 as their star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, could miss the first two weeks of the season. Reports suggest that the pacer may only be able to join the MI squad in April.

Bumrah is still recovering from Injury

Bumrah is currently recovering from a back injury at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE). He picked up this injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia two months ago.

A BCCI official shared an update on his progress, saying:

“Bumrah’s reports look fine, and he has started bowling again at the CoE. But it is unlikely that he will be fit enough to bowl in the early part of the IPL. Right now, the medical team believes he might be ready by the first week of April.”

The source further explained:

“This is a normal recovery process. The medical team will slowly increase his workload and intensity. He will only be cleared to play once he can bowl at full pace for several days without any discomfort.”

How This Affects Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23. Their first five games would have been played by the time Bumrah returned. His absence could put extra pressure on MI’s bowling attack, and they might have to rely on younger or less experienced bowlers to step up.

MI has some talented pacers, but none match Bumrah’s skill and experience. His unavailability could make their bowling weaker, especially in the death overs. The team will need to come up with a strong plan to manage their bowling without him in the first few matches.

India Thrives Without Bumrah in Champions Trophy 2025

Even though Bumrah is missing the Champions Trophy 2025, Team India has been outstanding. They have dominated all their matches in Dubai, winning four games in a row.

India finished on top of Group A after beating Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. Then, they secured a thrilling four-wicket victory over Australia in the semifinals. Now, they will face New Zealand in the final on March 9.

Bumrah played a huge role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win and was named Player of the Tournament. However, the team has shown great depth and adaptability even without him. Now, they have a golden chance to win back-to-back ICC trophies.
