India registered a comprehensive win against Bangladesh in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. Put in to bat first by Bangladesh the Men in Blue got off to a brisk start as Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli added 39 runs for the first wicket in 3.4 overs before Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Shakib in an attempt to clear the boundary. Rishabh Pant who walked into bat at number three carried on in his usual way and played his shots from ball one along with Kohli who also looked in good touch before he threw his wicket away after scoring 37 runs off 28 balls with Rishabh following him soon after playing one shot too many against the spinners at a time when he was looking set for a big score.

The Mini Collapse
India also lost Suryakumar Yadav after the right-hander opened his account with a six but was dismissed by Tanzim Hasan Sakib in the same over in which he took the wicket of Kohli thereby bringing Bangladesh right back in the game.
The Recovery
Having lost wickets in quick succession India was in desperate need of a partnership and the two all-rounders Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya did just that by adding 53 runs for the fifth wicket which took India’s score over the 150 run mark with the finishing touches being provided by Hardik Pandya who completed a hard-fought half-century on the last ball of the innings as India posted an above par total of 196 runs on the board. For Bangladesh, Mahedi Hasan was the pick of the bowler as he gave away just 28 runs in his quota of four overs.

The Chase
Chasing a target of 197 runs to win Bangladesh got off to a slow start scoring only 42 runs in the first six overs for the loss of one wicket and were 50-1 after the end of eight overs. With the run rate climbing up and the quality of India’s bowling chasing 197 runs was always going to be an uphill task for Bangladesh as the team crumbled against the spin of Kuldeep Yadav in the middle overs who picked up three wickets in the match.
The Bowling Effort
He was well supported by the fast bowling trio of Bumrah, Arshdeep, and Hardik who picked up five wickets between them helping India register a comprehensive win by 50 runs in their second match of the Super Eight stage. The Rohit Sharma-led side will now face Australia in their last match of the Super Eight stage.

The Positives
The only shining light for Bangladesh in the batting department was the team’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto who showed some fight with a fighting inning of 40 runs off 32 balls and was well supported by Tanzid Hasan as the left-handed duo added 31 runs for the second wicket thereby giving Bangladesh a glimmer of hope to cause an upset but that wasn’t to be as Indian bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Courtesy of the win against Bangladesh India has now booked a spot in the semi-final of the tournament.
