Indian batting Queen Smriti Mandhana etched her name in the record books with golden ink as she displayed exceptional performances in the third and the final ODI match of the bilateral series between the Indian cricket team and South Africa played in Bengaluru on June 23.
Smriti Mandhana stole the show with her brilliant innings of 90 runs, which propelled her to become the highest run-getter by an Indian woman in a bilateral ODI series.
Smriti Mandhana Creates ‘World Record’ To Become Top Run-Getter In 3-Match Bilateral Series
Throughout the series, Smriti Mandhana impressed one and all with her sensational batting prowess. She amassed an impressive 343 runs, surpassing the previous record of 308 runs by former Indian batter Jaya Sharma, which she had set against New Zealand in the 2003-04 season.
Mandhana scored back-to-back centuries in the first two games, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve this feat. She scored 117 in 127 balls, with 12 fours and a six in the first game, and 136 in 120 balls, with 18 fours and two sixes during the second ODI.
During the third ODI, Mandhana scored 90 runs in 83 balls, with the help of 11 boundaries. All thanks to her excellent performances, Mandhana also secured the ‘Player of the Series’ award as India white-washed South Africa by 3-0.

Currently, Mandhana stands at the 2nd-highest run-getter in the ODI format of the game, having amassed 3585 runs, which include 7 seven centuries and 25 half-centuries.
Talking out the third ODI match between India and South Africa, SA won the toss and opted to bat first. The captain Laura Woolvadrt (61 in 57 balls, with seven fours), and Tazmin Brits (38 in 26 balls, with two fours and a six) put up an amazing opening stand, however, Indian bowlers fought back to wrap up their innings for 215 runs in 50 overs, at the loss of eight wickets.
For India, Deepti Sharma (2/27) and Arundhati Reddy (2/36) were among the top bowlers for India. Shreyanka Patil and Pooja Vastrakar also picked a wicket each.
While chasing the target, Smriti Mandhana steadied the ship for Team India, with Shafali Varma (25 in 39 balls, with four boundaries), Priya Punia (28 in 40 balls, with two fours and a six) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (42 in 48 balls, with two fours) playing crucial knocks.
