Amelia Kerr struck a single off a delivery from Deepti Sharma to start the drama on the final ball of the fourteenth over. As the New Zealand hitters attempted a second run, Harmanpreet promptly gathered the ball and aimed a throw towards wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, successfully running Kerr out. India was celebrating Amelia’s wicket, but the celebration dashed when the third umpire stepped in, calling the ball dead and overturning the run-out ruling.

Earlier in the match, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening partnership of Suzie Bates and Plimmer set a solid foundation with a 50-run stand before India claimed two quick wickets during the powerplay. New Zealand ultimately posted a total of 161/4, bolstered by a strong unbeaten performance from Devine, who scored 57 runs off 36 balls, including seven boundaries.
