The Bangladesh Premier League is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country. The people of Bangladesh are crazy about cricket. So, when the various BPL teams comprise cricketers of international standards, it becomes all the more exciting. The BPL tournament is held every year with great pomp and show, and it works on the principles of IPL, which is of T20 standard. So, whether it is Chittagong Kings, Dhaka Dynamites, or any of their favorite teams, the games are fascinating.
Bangladesh fans have seen some of the most fantastic games since BPL came into play. There have been significant wins and some terrible losses. Moreover, there are times when a particular team has completely swept its opponent by winning with the most significant margins. Chris Gayle showed no mercy as Barisal Burners thrashed Sylhet Royals by ten wickets with 41 balls to spare. On 10th February 2012, the Bangladesh fans witnessed a storm of sixes and fours in the BPL premier league when Chris Gayle and his opening partner Ahmed Shehzad shared an unbeaten stand of 167 runs to beat Barisal Burners by ten wickets. Gayle hit seven fours and ten sixes for his unbeaten 101 runs in just 44 balls.
The opening stand of Sylhet Burners was not convincing as Barisal Burners took two quick wickets to send the openers back to the pavilion. However, captain Peter Trego and Alok Kapila stabilized the situation with a century stand that helped the team get to a total score of 165 for losing four wickets. However, Chris Gayle had other plans as he steered his team to a ten-wicket victory for which he received the Man of the Match award.
On 2nd December 2015, Chittagong Vikings thrashed their arch-rivals Sylhet Super Stars by ten wickets with 23 balls to spare. Sylhet Super Stars, who started their innings on a positive note, settled for 139 runs in their stipulated 20 overs, and Shahid Afridi made 62 runs in just 41 balls. However, Tilakaratne Dilshan and Tamim Iqbal steered their team Chittagong Vikings to a comfortable ten wickets victory with 23 balls to spare.
It was a one-sided game, as the day belonged to batmen. Dilshan showed his class by hitting three sixes and six fours in his 46-ball innings. All the bowlers of Chittagong Vikings got their share of wickets.
On 3rd December 2017, Sylhet Sixers broke all previous records by defeating Chittagong Vikings by a considerable margin of ten wickets with 53 balls to spare. It was a one-sided affair as Sylhet Sixers were up front of Chittagong Vikings from the start. Sylhet Sixers won the toss and elected to field. Ace bowler Nasir Hussain bowled a deadly spell of four overs where he claimed five wickets for just 31 runs. Nabil Samad put the icing on the cake by claiming three wickets for seven runs. Chittagong Vikings could never come out of danger and ultimately slumped at a meager total of just 67 runs.
Mohammad Rizwan and Andre Fletcher of Sylhet Sixes finished the match in 11.1 overs, remaining unbeaten at 36 and 32, respectively. The Man of the match was Nasir Hussain for his brilliant bowling performance.
Cricket is an unpredictable game, and it is because when the transition will occur is unknown. A team may start on a positive note, but the outcome may need to be more satisfactory. For these reasons, Bangladesh Premier League has become one of the most popular sporting events in the country.
