BCB Removes Hathurusinghe From Bangladesh Head Coach Post

Huthusinghe was recently convicted of misconduct in the team and got suspended by BCB as well.

He was suspended on Tuesday for using abusive language against a Bangladesh cricketer and taking more leave than what was stipulated in the contract

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has been removed from his post by the BCB after his suspension two days ago. This was done on the basis of his behavior at the Nilambur ground and violation of employment terms.

BCB president Farooq Ahmed said on Tuesday that Hathurusinghe assaulted a Bangladesh cricketer and took more leave than what was stipulated in his contract. The board had issued him a show-cause notice seeking an explanation on two cases of misconduct. Hathurusinghe responded the next day, following which an emergency board meeting was called on Thursday to review the situation.

“After considering all factors, the board found Hathuru’s explanation unsatisfactory and unacceptable. His dismissal comes into effect immediately,” the BCB said in a release.

This ends Hathurusinghe’s second stint as Bangladesh coach, even though his contract was till January 2025. This stint also included a historic Test series win in Pakistan recently. However, the team’s performance in two World Cup campaigns, an ODI in 2023 and a T20 World Cup in 2024, was disappointing.

Phil Simmons has been appointed as the head coach of the team till the upcoming Champions Trophy in February 2025.
