Ireland vs England: 3rd ODI Highlights
In a rain-marred Ireland vs England match, the host won by three wickets as they made 155/7 in reply to England’s 153 all out.
In a drama-filled last over, England seemed poised to complete a series sweep when Mady Villiers took three wickets when Ireland needed just eight runs from six balls.
Alana Dalzell, however, struck a boundary off the last ball to lead the win of Ireland vs England to their first ODI win over the Three Lions since 2001.
Rain truncated the Ireland vs England match to 22 overs per side and the visitors were then bowled out for 153, despite a brilliant 52 off 42 balls from the in-form Tammy Beaumont as Ireland’s Aimee Maguire took 5-19.
In response, Ireland chased down the revised target of 155 in 22 overs, driven by a sublime knock from Gaby Lewis.
Aimee Maguire’s 5-wicket haul devastate England innings
England’s innings got off to a good start, with Tammy Beaumont leading the charge. Her 52 off 42 balls, including 7 boundaries, provided a strong platform. However, Ireland’s Aimee Maguire broke the middle-order and shifted the momentum. Maguire delivered a clinical bowling performance, claiming 5 wickets for just 19 runs in 3.5 overs. Ireland’s disciplined bowling attack, with contribution from Freya Sargent (2/38), restricted Englandto a sub-par total of 153 despite strong foundation.
Gaby Lewis anchors Ireland to victory
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Ireland batters showed resilience while chasing 155 under the DLS method. Lewis led the charge by scoring a composed 72 off 56 balls, that included 10 boundaries. Significant contributions from Leah Paul with 22 off 23 and Amy Hunter’s 18 off 18 also helped Ireland register the win.
“We just tried to keep the camp in positive spirits,” Ireland captain Gaby Lewis, told the reporters.
“Cricket’s hard sometimes and obviously playing against top-quality nations, these kind of defeats are going to happen, but I think it’s the way we can bounce back and I think we did that brilliantly”, she added as.
