Afghanistan to Host South Africa in Historic ODI Series
Afghanistan is set to make cricketing history by hosting South Africa for a three-match One Day International (ODI) series. This landmark event will unfold at the renowned Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates. This will be the inaugural bilateral series between the two nations, as their previous encounters have been limited to ICC World Cup tournaments.
The recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final where South Africa convincingly defeated Afghanistan, serves as a fresh memory. The Proteas, opting to bowl first, bundled out the Afghan team for a paltry 60 runs before comfortably chasing down the target to secure their place in the final.
In the 50-over format Afghanistan and South Africa have clashed twice, with both matches resulting in victories for the Rainbow Nation. Their initial ODI meeting took place during the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, where South Africa emerged triumphant. A similar outcome unfolded at the 2023 World Cup with the Proteas advancing to the semi-finals at Afghanistan’s expense.

The highly anticipated ODI series will be a three-match affair, with the action commencing on September 18th and concluding on September 23rd at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Following their series against Afghanistan, South Africa will shift their focus to Ireland. The Proteas are scheduled to play three T20 Internationals and three ODIs against Ireland, with all matches to be held at the Sheikh Zayed International Stadium in Abu Dhabi. This will be the second time these two teams have faced off at a neutral venue. Their previous encounter in 2022 at the County Ground in Bristol saw South Africa claim a 2-0 victory in the T20I series. The Proteas will undoubtedly be aiming to replicate this success in the upcoming tour.
