Indian former cricket international Suresh Raina was born on November 27, 1986. When the regular captain was unavailable, he would take over as captain of the Indian men’s national cricket team. Raina has helped out former captain MS Dhoni with a few solid overs during the innings as a lefty batter and a handy spinner. His acrobatic fielding and infectious enthusiasm for cheering on his teammates have made him a fan favourite.
The Indian team would not have been as successful without Raina’s services in the centre of the line-up. His outstanding play at the 2004 U-19 World Cup and the U-19 Asia cup caught the selectors’ attention. His domestic success culminated in February 2003, when he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh against Assam at the tender age of 16; he did not play again until the following season.
Suresh Raina played his first One-Day International on July 30, 2005, against Sri Lanka. After such a promising debut, his play declined over the following year, and he suffered a career-ending injury in the fall of 2007. Raina had undeniable potential, but he had to show it on the field. 2008 was the first year the IPL Caravan was used. Raina has already retired from all forms of cricket, but his T20I career stats are outstanding. In 78 matches, he has scored 1,605 runs with an average of 29.18, including one hundred and five fifties.
