Tushar Deshpande Included in India A Squad to Tour England, Maratha Royals Announce Replacements for T20 Mumbai League.

In a notable development, Tushar Deshpande has been included in the India A team for the tour of England. The marquee pacer will therefore miss the third edition of the T20 Mumbai League, where he was to play for Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals as one of the icon players.

Deshpande will be part of a team captained by Abhimanyu Easwaran, his comeback to red-ball cricket after over a year.

To replace Tushar Deshpande, who left a void in his absence, the Maratha Royals have appointed Rohan Raje in his place. Together with Deshpande, Armaan Jaffer will miss the tournament, having sought release from the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) to play for Pondicherry. Saksham Parashar has been appointed as Jaffer’s replacement.

Recent Form of Tushar Deshpande in IPL and Domestic Cricket

In IPL 2025, Tushar Deshpande played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) but endured a difficult season. He could pick up just 9 wickets in 10 matches, averaging 37.77 with an economy rate of 10.62.

But Deshpande is still an asset in the longer version. He played red-ball cricket the last time in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final, taking three wickets against Vidarbha. Deshpande has 97 wickets from 36 first-class matches, five five-wicket hauls, and an average of 29.09 overall.

Siddhesh Lad Named Captain of Maratha Royals

In another major announcement, Siddhesh Lad has been named captain of the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals for the next T20 Mumbai League season. The experienced Mumbai batsman possesses a rich domestic record and is regarded for his game sense and captaincy.

Lad recently played in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring a significant 145 against Meghalaya earlier this year. He came back to the Mumbai team after a one-year cooling-off period, as he had played for Goa during the 2022-23 domestic season.

Abhishek Nayar Credits Lad’s Leadership Ability

Past India assistant coach and current mentor of the Maratha Royals, Abhishek Nayar, credited Lad’s strategic ability and leadership. He reads the game well, absorbs pressure, and leads by example. Siddhesh has fitted into every role and always delivered,” said Nayar.
